Jess Wins 332 Books For Her Class!
Earlier this week we had Karis Luk from Year 5 winning 332 digital books for her class and now Jess Aitken has done the same!
Jess, who is in Mrs Bakker’s class in Year 2, had to choose her favourite sentence from any book she was reading. She chose a line from the book ‘The Tiger Rising’ by Kate DiCamillo. Jess is an avid reader so we’re sure she’ll have read all 332 books before the year is out!
Jess’s mother, who is our Primary School Librarian- Ms Jo-an, told us that Jess enters the competition, run by The National Newspaper and Scholastic, every week so she was delighted that she had won.
The competition is part of the #UAEReads campaign where, over the coming months, schools can win a share of more than 40,000 books in the Year of Reading, declared for 2016 by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa.
Jess is pictured with Principal, Mr Andrew Thomas who said, “Look at the news from our school this week and tell me that we don’t have hard working and committed students! Jess is another example or our excellent students here at AAESS and her love for reading has really paid off. Jess is a very smart young lady with a very bright future and I assure you that this is a name you will read about again. This is very special: 2 wins in a week in the Year of Reading here in the UAE. The National Reading Year has been much supported by our Board of Trustees and our Chairman, & I am looking forward to sharing some interesting developments here at AAESS after the Summer Holiday, with regards to this. Well done Jess; top work!”
