The School Council (SC) comprises of 48 elected representatives which include the head boy, head girl, 2 deputies, 4 house captains, prefects and tutor captains from Year 7 to Year 13. The SC showcases the true diversity at AAESS where students from more than 50 countries merge to form a vibrant and multitalented forum. It is a tradition at AAESS that the first event organised by the school council is a charity fundraiser supporting the community. The SC organises events like the AAESS Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Anti-bullying project, National and International Day, World Book Day and the World Maths Day celebrations in conjunction with the prefects. The SC also implements the aims of the ADEK Sustainable Schools Project where students recommend ways to reduce their impact on the environment. The School council empowers the student body to make AAESS environmentally friendly. Another function of the SC is to help organise excursions to the Grand Mosque, theme parks, museums and art galleries in the UAE. The House captain promotes house activities and healthy competition amongst the different houses, Armstrong, Cousteau, Stinnes and Thesiger.
The Student Express is a newsletter written for students by students. This is a bi annual edition. Find below the 2020/21 editions:
The students have a broadcast team sharing advice and quotes with fellow sixth formers.
The SC meets fortnightly or as convened to deliberate on matters brought forth by the students and representatives. Minutes are recorded and circulated. Tutor captain meetings provide agenda items for the SRC. The head boy and head girl of Secondary also meet once a term with the Primary School’s head boy and head girl. They meet weekly with the Secondary school principal, deputy principal and the executive principal of AAESS.
