Innovations Day – Year 13

As part of Innovations Day in Science Year 13 students had to design and engineer a wind turbine that could be used to harness energy. To measure the amount of energy, students had to include in their designs a way of the lifting mass. Students had only 30 minutes to design and build their prototype before it was tested.

Year 7 got innovative with engineering bridges. The Tacoma Bridge disaster was used as inspiration to show how bridge building can go horribly wrong! You can watch the video yourself here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzu6CNtqec

Again, students had to design and engineer their creation from spaghetti and marshmallows in only 30minutes before testing. They were tested for their stability against the wind and their strength against mass.  Pupils developed their team building skills; working collaboratively using critical thinking to construct their bridges.
