Welcome Letter from the Head of Secondary

Dear Parent/Guardian,
It is with great delight that I take up the position of Head of Secondary at Al Ain English Speaking School from August 2017.
My career has been based in the United Kingdom for the last 16 years where I have achieved 2 degrees, a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed Hons) and a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed). I have also achieved the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). I was employed at my last school for 15 years, 8 years of which I was a senior leader. I left only after I read about the fantastic opportunity at AAESS, which led to a visit last December to tour the school and area, where I was totally convinced and wanted to be a part of the team. I see loyalty as a key component of any individual and I look to form a strong relationship with the school community and the city of Al Ain.
I am thrilled about joining such a prestigious school at a time where progress and innovation are tangible for all to see. I am passionate about education, potential and ambition of students, and it is the exact reasons why AAESS is the right move for me and my family. My core beliefs for everyone including students, parents and staff, is that hard work and effort are of paramount importance in realising potential. I can assure you that my team and I will do everything possible to achieve the very best academia for your children, ensuring they are well rounded, happy, and courteous and supported throughout. I feel the importance of ensuring the primary and secondary school work together so the journey for students from the age of 4 to 18 is seamless and enjoyable. To this end, I look forward to working closely with Mrs Helen McCauley and her team to ensure we get the very best for all.
On a personal level, I love spending time with my family & I am a keen golfer with a handicap of 9 and support Manchester City Football Club and my old local team Plymouth Argyle. I am looking forward to watching and supporting Al Ain City. My family and I are also keen to get to know Al Ain and the surrounding area, as this becomes our new home.
I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child/ren, and I believe wholeheartedly in establishing a strong relationship with you from the start. As a result, I will be available on Thursdays to take appointments. Should you require an appointment, please contact the reception or my personal assistant, Mrs Georgia Thomas, who will only be too pleased to assist you in meeting your request.
Kind regards,
Mr S L Giles B.Ed (Hons) M.Ed NPQH
