Water Rocket Competition finals

Last week saw the finals of the EAU Water Rocket Competition 2017 in Dubai.  AAESS had the honour of taking two teams to the Emirates Aviation University (EAU) to take part in the competition. Altar Tendurus, Usman Tahir, Fadi Eid Katrina, Emin Altonchi and Raghad Al Shoubaki made up Team AAESS, whilst Team AAESS Girls was championed by 5 year 11 students; Alina Fatima, Iman Shadid, Zoha Khalid, Ishmal Khalid, Alina Suresh

The 61 teams from all over the UAE were first given briefing of the competition rules and requirements in the University’s formal lecture room.  They then had 2 hours to design, build and complete their Rocket structure before launching in the afternoon.  Innovation was key; to build a rocket which was aerodynamically sound alongside using the laws of Physics to decide how much water would be best to give the most efficient, longest flight.  The positional centre of gravity of the Rocket was key!

Each team was allowed 2 launches with the longest distance achieved being recorded on the leader board. Camaraderie between the teams was high and there was a fantastic vibe throughout the day across the campus of the University.

Team AAESS Girls recorded a final distance of 68.5m, beating their in trial School distance by over 20m!

However…….. Team AAESS were crowned Runners Up in the competition with a distance of 86.5m and a Rocket design score of 22/30.  Massive congratulations and credit must be given to Altar, Emin, Usman, Raghad and Fadi for their team ethos and Rocket design.

All 10 students were exceptional ambassadors of the School and did us all very proud with their enthusiasm and dedication to the competition.

Next year………..Champions……? J
