U19 Football Girls Represent AAESS
It was a memorable day, one none of us will ever forget: from Adnan’s pillow he brought along for the ride; the multiple injuries our team suffered to the unfortunate misses and goals that made our coaches proud! This day was a long day, a tiring day but most importantly a day we felt proud representing our school.
Anyone can run around and kick a ball, but it takes a team working together to actually achieve anything. Blessed with a team of many different ages and nationalities, it was less of a team and more of a little family. We spent 12 hours together and although we did not come back with a trophy, we came back with something more important: a lasting friendship and unforgettable memories (and a few injuries).
Throughout all the matches, we kept our heads held high, congratulating the opponents when they scored, and excessively celebrating when our own (Farah and Abbie) scored. We had an excellent mixture: our terrific goalie who always manages to impress us (Leah), the defence that was like an impenetrable wall (Angelica, Sara, Celine, Raleen), a team of hardworking midfielders, constantly running around, losing an approximation of 10 kg (Habiba, Tala, Elza, Tehana, Hannah, Juliet) and of course, our two strikers whom without, we wouldn’t have been able to score our awe-inspiring goals (Farah, Abbie).
We sang our way through the day, helping each other get up after every fall, sharing advice for improvement, and keeping each other in high spirits. We cheered on our boys and they acted as our coaches when it was our turn to play. It was honestly both a memorable trip and an exceptional experience, only made special by the people who took part in it (girls U19 team, boys U19 team, primary teacher (Ms Angela Ledger), and of course, our occasionally funny coach Mr Islam who believed in us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves).
Principal Andrew Thomas concluded with, “This typifies the spirit of the young people at AAESS and I am proud that these young ladies have represented the school with such pride and honour. The bumps will heal, but those memorise today will last a lifetime. Congratulations to you all and I have no doubt that a winning streak is a round the corner”.
