The introduction of the KS2 Science ECA has caused much excitement amongst Year 6 pupils.

The ECA was set up to inspire primary learners before their transition to secondary next year.  The club takes place in the secondary science labs which offers the pupils the opportunity to work with some of the equipment they will be expected to use throughout their future years at the school.

Pupils have so far studied the Laws of Physics to design and construct parachutes; building on the concepts learned about forces in the primary curriculum.

They have extended their knowledge of Biology beyond their age expectations to learn about DNA, extracting it kiwi fruit as shown below.

Pupils have also begun to explore Chemistry by investigating the miscibility of liquids as part of the planning for making their own ‘lava’ lamps (video).

The ECA has given pupils the opportunity to be creative through discovery and the methodology of practiced techniques beyond the classroom.

Pupils have found the ECA extremely enjoyable and there are plans to extend the learning through younger years in the coming term.
