Past & Present Raise Money for Asia Centre Foundation Children’s Scholarship Fund
The annual Phuket Rugby Tournament held on 27th to the 29th May, raised funds for the Asia Centre Foundation children’s scholarship fund. The teams raised over B400, 000 (40,000AEDs) to help keep children in school and give them an education and hope for the future (survivors of the 2004 tsunami).
Three of our AAESS ex-scholars attended this tournament. Qwayne Cash (Receptionist AAESS) and brothers Viliame and Patrick Camaivuna (both attending the University of the South Pacific) ran on for the Amblers’ senior team while Maniue Vilsoni (Head of English at AAESS) played as a utility for the Veterans.
The event, held at the Thanyapura Sports Club, was played in torrential monsoon rain. The standard of play was high and there were a sprinkling of former international and provincial players. The likes of Samo Radike and Julian Huxley (former Wallabies) and Setefano Cakau and Lepani Nabuliwaqa (former Fiji 7’s rugby stars) graced the tournament.
The Amblers’ senior side won the Plate final 19-0 against the Arks Invitational side from Australia and the veterans bowed out in the Plate semifinal 7-15 to the Moorabbin Rams (Aust).
