New Head of Secondary Mr Steven Giles
It is with tremendous pleasure that I introduce Mr Steve Giles B.Ed (Hons) M.Ed NPQH, as the new Head of Secondary, and Deputy Principal. I was very pleased to secure Steve’s services after having had the pleasure of working with him on consultancy projects in the UK and as a professional colleague I have known for some time.
Steve will be joined by his son Tom (Year 8) in this first Year, and his wife Lucy will join our Primary team next year with their daughter Erin joining AAESS in the 6th Form once she completes her GCSE studies. Steve was a premier league England player for table tennis and became a teacher after training initially as a surveyor.
Steve has had great success in heading up a Maths department in a large inner city school, and after 15 years in his previous school, Steve has shown the loyalty that is required at AAESS which will be invaluable to us and the Secondary sector as we enter an exciting time in the history of the school.
Steve was born in Plymouth, Devon in the South West of England. His Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education helped him secure his first position as a Physical Education teacher in Poole in Dorset. After the birth of his daughter Erin and son Tom, Steve relocated back to his home town of Plymouth and secured a job as PE teacher in the second largest school in the city. Steve very swiftly was promoted to head of year and soon after, subsequently secured a position onto the Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Vice Principal.
During his time at the school, Steve completed his M.Ed in Professional studies including a dissertation on the motivation strategies for KS3 and 4 students, at which he was graded distinction.
Steve’s remit of improving school performance and development saw him lead the maths department to double their attainment results at KS4 within 4 years and set new school records across a number of subjects year after year. He has led on school improvement for 9 years and has worked as a consultant for leadership in a number of other schools in the South West of England.
Steve has completed his UK National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), and was promoted again to Senior AVP to recognise the important role Steve played within the school. Steve’s up-beat, dynamic, positive outlook on education is infectious. He believes that anything is possible and will ensure that all of the students at AAESS will have the opportunity to achieve the very best. A keen golfer with a single figure handicap, Steve is an avid Manchester City and Plymouth Argyle football supporter. He loves spending time with his family, and experiencing new opportunities and challenges.
I know Steve is looking forward to meeting you and working with you all and cannot wait to start here in Al Ain.
I’m sure you will join me in wishing him and his family all the very best as he takes on this key and fundamental role at our school.
