Karis Luk Wins 332 Books For Her Class!
We at AAESS are delighted to announce that Karis Luk, who is a student in Ms Miller’s class in Year 5, has won this month’s “The National Year of Reading Campaign” competition. She and her classmates can now access a digital collection of 332 English books .
The National newspaper and Scholastic are currently challenging students in the UAE to read more and share their experiences through monthly challenges as part of the #UAEReads campaign.
Scholastic are one of the world’s leading publishers of books and educational material and they are the people who brought such books as Clifford the Big Red Dog, Goosebumps and The Hunger Games to young people.
Over the coming months, schools can win a share of more than 40,000 books in the Year of Reading, declared for 2016 by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa
Every month a brand new challenge is set and every week they randomly draw three winners from the entries submitted that week and award three collections of books:
English Primary – for students aged 4 to 11. This is a digital collection of 332 English books. The student and his/her whole classroom will have access to the collection via computer or iPad from anywhere for a whole year.
English Secondary – for students aged 12 to16. This is a digital collection of 323 English books. The student and his/her whole classroom will have access to the collection via computer or iPad from anywhere for a whole year.
Arabic Primary – for students aged 4 to 11. This is a physical collection of 200 books for the winning student’s classroom.
Karis, with lots of encouragement from her mother, sent in an article to The National saying who her favourite character was in one of the books she has been reading recently.
Principal Andrew Thomas said “I’m absolutely delighted for Karis and her classmates in 5RM. We are always keen to actively encourage all of our students to read everyday, so Karis winning 332 digital books for her class will be of great benefit to them and will hopefully encourage others to read more. Well done Karis, we are all extremely proud of you at AAESS!”
