Bryan Robson Visit

Principal Andrew Thomas, & Director of Sport, Suzy Eagles, travelled to Abu Dhabi on Thursday afternoon to represent AAESS at the Chevrolet and Soccer Kids special event.

The event, celebrating disability in football, was hosted at the Armed Forces Hotel and saw children being awarded prizes of a lifetime, including a trip to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, Manchester Utd.

Soccer Kids works hard with disabled children and AAESS is proud to have supported them over the year and will continue to do so by hosting sessions at the school.

Andrew said, “Ok, I’m essentially a Liverpool supporter, but, this is one of the greatest legends in football. Bryan Robson was not only the Captain for Man Utd, but also for England at a time when I was growing up!  He scored about 90 goals for Utd and no matter what team you support this man is a sporting icon.  Today, it was great to see Mr Robson place Utd shirts on the children that he is taking to Old Trafford.  I have had the great fortune myself to watch a game there and it is one of the greatest sporting events I have attended;  I have been to a few!  He gave his time so generously and it was great to see the children being rightly spoilt by Bryan.  They will truly have a trip of a lifetime.  AAESS will continue to support Soccer Kids; we work hard with the local Tawam hospital and their Down’s Syndrome Unit through our own Luanne Cash, and this charity work that our own students do is vital in making a difference in the community and allowing our students to understand the importance of caring and inclusion, which they do so very well.”

Director of Sport, Suzy Eagles said, “When Mr Thomas asked if I would represent AAESS at this event I immediately jumped at the chance. I strongly believe in sport for all, not withstanding ability, but when he told me that Bryan Robson would be there, I honestly thought he was joking! Bryan was a real star with those children today and like all true champions of sport, he simply was ‘one of us’.  We look forward to continue working with Soccer Kids at AAESS and I know that our own students will continue to support such campaigns and enjoy the opportunity”.
