Isla’s success in China

During the recent Spring break, one of our Year 5 students, Isla Douglas from class 5TM, took part in an Ice Skating tournament in Beijing, China. We are delighted to share the news that Isla came home with no less than SIX medals, including 3 for first place finishes.

Talking about her experience, Isla told us that she really enjoyed the competition even though it was hard work. During one of the disciplines she was required to perform, Isla had never skated to that particular routine before, but she still came away with first place!

After Isla’s success, it was confirmed that she is now eligible to go forward to represent her home country, New Zealand!

We at AAESS are extremely proud of Isla’s success and achievements and wish her the very best of luck for her next competition.

Mr Andrew Thomas, Principal said, “I have watched Isla practice here in Al Ain and she is very impressive, so I am not surprised she has managed to achieve what she has done here.  Getting to this level takes a lot of dedication, hard work and courage, especially when you are performing moves on ice!  I am looking very much forward to watching Isla’s skating career become even bigger, which I know she will do well in.  We all wish Isla the very best and cannot wait to see more gold medals!”
