Conformity Experiment

Recently, the year 11 Psychology class created a social experiment to test conformity and social influence. The students from Year 11 and sixth form were the unknowing participants in the study and Miss Cash, Year 12 and 13 psychology students and all other teachers in attendance were confederates (in on the study). Every time Miss Cash would say the word ‘alright’ the Year 11s and Sixth Form confederates would stand. Cameron Fountain and Mishal Khan (seen here debriefing the students) were watching from the room above and recording the details to see if anyone conformed who was not a confederate. Results showed that a minority of students did conform but the majority did not.
