UAERFU Top Awards to AAESS Staff & Students

Saturday 15th April saw the annual UAERFU awards held in Dubai, that honours all those involved in the game at every level.

This year, several AAESS students from Al Ain Amblers Rugby Club, were nominated for awards.

The AAARFU U19 girls were nominated, with a large majority of the team members being Al Ain English Speaking students; Hayden Gilmore in Year 5 for Mini Player of the Year, & Ryno de Bruyn for Youth Player of the Year.

Ryno, pictured on the left of the picture, took the award for the second year running.  Ryno is currently studying in the 6th Form before he heads back to his native South Africa to take up a place at university there.

Mr Maniue Vilsoni, our Head of English here at AAESS (pictured on the right), won the prestigious Neil Palmer Award for his long standing services to the game here in the UAE.  Maniue is not only a coach, but commentates at many games around the UAE as well as publishing articles for the press.

Principal Andrew Thomas said, “Neither of these awards come as a surprise.  When I heard they had been nominated I couldn’t see why they would not be awarded as both gentlemen are totally dedicated to this game.  The school has a long standing history with Al Ain Amblers and we are proud to be associated with them and proud of all our players, young and old who represent their club and school so well.  Ryno continues to deliver on the pitch and I will not get tired of saying this: he has a big future ahead of him!  Congratulations to both Ryno and Maniue”.

The school has recently entered a staff touch rugby team that play and meet every Tuesday night at the Amblers.  Watch out for them in their new blue strip.
