Sara Takes Gold!
Sara Ahmed who is in Year 9, participated in one of the International Taekwondo Competitions, the fifth Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship, which took place for three days between 23rd – 25th February 2017. Sara was among 667 player from 28 countries including USA, England, UAE, and other countries from all around the world.
Sara won the Golden Medal and was the only player from Al Ain city who won this title. The competitions are conducted in accordance with the rules established by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, has stressed the importance of developing the game of taekwondo in the emirate and encouraging talents to take part in local and the Olympic Games. He was speaking at the opening of the fifth Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship on Thursday 23rd February 2017 evening. Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Club, and Choue Chung-won, President of the World Taekwondo Federation were also present.
The Crown Prince of Fujairah praised the efforts of those in charge of the tournament and their role in developing the sport. He also noted that Fujairah has made great efforts to support this game at local and international levels.
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad thanked the World Taekwondo Federation and the UAE Taekwondo and Karate Federation for their role in supporting the tournament. Among others present were Salem Al Zahmi, Director of Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah, Ibrahim Abdul Malik, General Secretary of the General Authority of Youth & Sports Welfare, and a number of UAE sports leaders.
Principal, Mr Andrew Thomas, said, “It was with great pleasure and delight that I meet with Sara’s father, Dr Ahmed, who shared this great news with me. Sara shows all the characteristics of a true AAESS student: Courageous; Committed and Dedicated. She clearly has great mental attitude and a tough skin! Taking part in any sport at this level requires hard work and a lot of training time. Like all our successful athletes here at the School, Sara is a real credit to us and her family. She has a great personality and a fantastic outlook on life, and I know this young lady will go a long way in life. Congratulations Sara. We look forward to hearing about the next competition.”
