Principal Expands Senior Leadership Team

“A great and important day,” is how Principal, Andrew Thomas described the announcement that the Senior Leadership has been expanded at AAESS.

Andrew added, “The Senior Team has been expanded to provide capacity in the school and to drive improvement in the school where it is needed most.  Each of these ‘new’ members will focus on an area to push the inspection grade, but more importantly, enhance the quality of education that our children receive.”

The Principal concluded with, “I am delighted to announce the promotion of the following staff:  Mr Zaheer Abass who has been in the school for over 17 years and currently the Head of Science, has been rightly promoted to Assistant Principal, Deputy Head of Secondary.  Zaheer pictured back row and far right, will be responsible for Progress and Data across the School, as well as being the senior link to the Science Faculty.  This has been a long time coming for Zaheer but so deserved;  Ms Suzy Eagles, Associate Principal, pictured far left who is the current Director of Sport, will also lead on Secondary Innovative Teaching & Learning.  Suzy has only been with us since January, but has made a huge impact already & I am excited that with her background from an Outstanding School, she brings a drive towards implementing high teaching and learning standards that others will learn from;  Mr Nic Poisat, Associate Principal, is currently our Head of Year 4 and is Ms Eagles’ counterpart in the Primary sector.  Nic brings wonderful innovative ideas to the table and he will use his creativity to drive and improve quality in the Primary sector which I am very excited about. He will work closely with Suzy to ensure our staff are supported and that our children get the very best.  Nic is pictured back row next to Suzy; Mr Mike Sommerville, Associate Principal, pictured back row, second from the right, is also a long standing member of the team and currently Head of Year 6.  Mike will lead on the Primary Curriculum and will oversee smoother transitions at Year 6 to 7, ensuring that not only is pastoral welfare supported, but the academic transition between the phases is also appropriate for our students.  Mike has much experience as a former Senior teacher in New Zealand and I am excited with what he brings to the table; Mr Neil Rowley, Associate Principal, pictured front right, re-joins the Senior Team after a year away.  Neil will look after the Secondary Pastoral Teams and be an essential member of the team looking after Key Stage transitions, options and exams.  Neil is also a long serving member of the team and his knowledge is invaluable in ensuring stability in the Secondary sector.”

Andrew (front row centre), is also pictured with existing Senior Team members, Helen McCauley, Deputy Principal and Head of Primary (right of Andrew); Peter Gillmore, Deputy Principal, Head of Secondary (left of Andrew), and Chris Ebbinkhuysen, Assistant Principal, Deputy Head of Primary (back row and 3rd from left).
