International Tolerance Day

In honor of International Tolerance Day, our students discussed tolerance and worked on activities that they were able to share in class about how to be more tolerant.  Below are the activities that some classes did.

FS1 – Ms Yates

We paired up with a friend and coloured pictures of ourselves. Before we did this we discussed what makes us each unique and special. We talked about the similarities and differences and agreed that we should accept one another for the way we are. We also sang a song together about tolerance to have a better understanding of what it means.

FS2 – Ms Strader

We read and discussed the book ‘Amazing Grace’ as well as watched a couple short videos related to tolerance. We discussed the book and the students came up with answers of what they thought tolerance meant and we stuck the answers onto a poster.

We did this throughout the day frequently referring to the story and what tolerance means, each time one or two students had a comment to add.

Year 2 – Ms Rose

Activity 1 : Discuss what tolerance is and what makes us different/unique. Children talked to their partner about what made them different and special. The students then drew different faces of people that they knew and wrote what made them different.

Activity 2: We read the story about Alexander and his terrible, horrible, not so good, very bad day. We found out that some people are not very nice in the playground so each child made 3 smiley faces to give to those are sad during breaks.

Year 4 – Mr McCandlish

In class we took characters from Charlie and The Chocolate factory and wrote compound sentences about them, using a tolerance theme. Many of the characters have bad sides to them, but we tried to be tolerant and see them from a positive point of view!

Year 6

Mr E demonstrated with a paper cutout how unkind words can really hurt someone.  Each time something mean is said, a little piece is broken.  When trying to put it back together again, it won’t be the same.   After the demonstration, students made their own cutouts and worked together to make them whole again.

Year 8 – Ms Rose

I am proud of year 8’s work for the display board about tolerance.  They worked together talking about ways to be tolerant and how to show that in everyday situations.
