D of E Silver and Gold Practice Expedition

This week’s Duke of Edinburgh participants gained an understanding of how heavy their expedition bag will be! Students had to work in pairs to first lift the bags onto each others backs and then learned how to adjust the straps so that the weight could be evenly distributed throughout their bodies.

Pupils were very surprised by the weight that they had to carry and will receive some further training of how to pace their walking with this weight in a later session.

Students also discussed what they would need to carry in their rucksacks and looked at the best ways to pack all their essential kit for their outdoor venture.
